Travelling to an exhibition can be a stressful time, especially if travelling abroad.
So how can you alleviate some of this stress?
Well if you are travelling abroad, do you know someone at the other end that knows the area and could pick you up? Local knowledge is such a great resource. Yes you can get in taxis and take trains to where you need to be, but instead of bumbling around train stations or taxi ranks, get someone from the area to guide you every step of the way, it makes the whole process a lot easier.
No one wants to turn up to an exhibition run down, flustered and stressed. So if you do have to travel a large distance to get to where you need to be, why not fly or take the train a day early. You can stay over in a hotel and get a good nights rest before the big day. You are going to be on your stand for the best part of 8-10 hours, and that is no fun if you are shattered!
Always allow an hour and a half minimum to get to your next mode of transport, be it a connecting flight, the next train or even a taxi. Rushing through airports because of delays, weaving in and out of people while you run from platform to platform in the train station and trying to frantically flag a taxi down will not put you in the right frame of mind to talk to people all day long on your stand.
This last point will seem like a wild suggestion to most of the modern business world, but you could even try not working during your journey! Turn off your phone, laptop, iPad, tablet or whatever electrical device you have and enjoy the travelling. Look up from your laptop and out of the window for once, you will be much more relaxed when your event starts and this can only improve your performance on the day!
